Caserta Royal Palace

The Royal Palace in Caserta is the symbol of the highest ambition of the Borbone, to realise a political centre and magnificent royal residence. Designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in the second part of the 1700 for the King Carlo VII of Borbone, it is the most important royal palace in Italy and one of the most magnificent in Europe. The original plan was included not only of the palace and it's gardens, but also of the new city plan.

The construction of the palace, carried by Luigi Vanvitelli until his dead, was continued by his son Carlo with some differences from the original plan. The building have 1.200 rooms and 2.000 windows. Inside we find a small museum and the "Pinacoteca".

The visit of the palace starts with the public area of the palace, the throne room and the guards rooms to the private area, the apartment of Queen Maria Carolina of Austria to the library and the cribs. The park is one of the last examples of garden-park in the baroque era. Beautiful scenografy of fountains falls with avenues was created by Vanvitelli with the aqueduct Carolino and the viaduct of Ponti della Valle.
